Bar Vera is our favourite restaurant in Pererenan — and has been for some time. It sits closest to the villas, which makes it almost too convenient, but proximity is not why we keep going back. We go back because the food is consistently exceptional and because it delivers something rare in Bali: a modern European bistro menu with genuine Spanish roots, executed at a level that holds up against anywhere.

The croquetas de jamón and the classic pan con tomate y jamón are the kind of dishes that transport you somewhere else entirely. The premium beef burger is first-class. The pollo charcoal and pork tomahawk are outstanding. And the chocolate tart at the end of the night is not optional — it is mandatory.

The atmosphere matches the food: effortlessly elegant without being stiff, genuinely cool without trying too hard. The space is semi-open, which can feel warm near the kitchen on certain nights, but it is well-ventilated and rarely an issue. The service is attentive and unhurried. Everything about it is right.

Shelter is currently the most crowded and sought-after restaurant in Pererenan — and the reason is simple: the food is extraordinary. The concept revolves around Mediterranean-inspired flavours driven by a wood-fired oven and open charcoal grill. The meats, the wood-fired chicken and the freshly baked pita breads that come out of that kitchen are the kind of thing you think about on the way home.

One of the owners and head chef is always on-site, and it shows in everything — the timing, the execution, the consistency. The menu is extensive in the best possible way, making it genuinely difficult to choose because everything on it sounds incredible. Weekly special menus keep the experience fresh on return visits. The dessert selection is equally serious.

The space is a stunning wooden Joglo filled with lush tropical plants — dining here feels immersive rather than simply decorative. The staff pay attention to every detail. Getting a table without a prior reservation at any time of night is practically impossible, which tells you everything you need to know.

For elevated Italian dining, Riviera is the answer. The philosophy is straightforward: a focused menu executed to perfection, where product quality takes genuine priority over variety. The homemade pasta is exceptional. The pizzas are made with a signature 48-hour fermented dough that is difficult to find at this level anywhere in Bali.

The tiramisu deserves a specific mention — honestly one of the finest in Bali, and worth visiting even if it were the only reason to go. It is not.

The space nails the concept of a modern Italian tavern: elegant, beautiful and vibrant without being loud. A gorgeous outdoor patio sits alongside a fully enclosed indoor dining room with powerful air conditioning, making it the ideal escape on Bali's more humid evenings. The manager is always on the floor, the staff are warm and attentive, and the entire experience feels genuinely considered.

Origen redefines what high-quality Mexican food looks like in Bali. The menu features more than eight distinct types of authentic tacos — which makes ordering a genuinely enjoyable challenge — alongside a selection of dishes that take Mexican cuisine seriously rather than approximating it. As the staff's t-shirts proudly state: "Aquí se hace todo con amor" — everything here is made with love. You can taste it in every bite.

The restaurant itself is massive and brilliantly designed — a cool air-conditioned indoor area alongside a beautiful outdoor space that stays perfectly breezy. One of the most charming venues in Pererenan. The second floor hosts a fantastic bar area that occasionally runs lively Latin nights, perfect for a high-end cocktail after dinner. The owner is regularly on the floor and the service is impeccable throughout.

Save room for dessert: the Pay de Limón (Lemon Pie) and the fresh churros are not optional.

Pescado holds a special place in Pererenan's history — it was one of the absolute pioneers of the area, having opened its doors nearly eight years ago when the neighbourhood was only beginning to find its identity. Chef Rubén has spent those years doing one thing: bringing the true, uncompromised flavours of Spain to Bali without compromise.

The paellas are the stars — multiple variations, each one richer than the last, made the way they should be made. The octopus plate is outstanding. The croquetas are a staple for any table. And for those who have never encountered a proper cachopo, this is the place to try one — it is a show-stopping dish.

The space is cosy, intimate and fully air-conditioned — a calm, premium environment that feels like a genuine neighbourhood restaurant rather than a tourist destination. End the evening with their cheesecake. Then come back the following week.

Mostly enters this guide as a masterclass in two things: architecture and versatility. The space is visually spectacular — striking wooden structures, soaring high ceilings and a dramatic nighttime lighting concept that makes arriving here feel like an event in itself. It is one of the most beautiful restaurant spaces in Pererenan by a significant margin.

Gastronomically, Mostly serves a massive Asian-Western fusion menu that makes it the ultimate solution for large groups dining together. If you are at the villa with twelve people where one wants fresh sushi, another wants a premium steak and someone else needs a serious vegetarian dish — Mostly ensures everyone eats exceptionally well in the same space, at the same table, in a genuinely upscale atmosphere.

Arte is where we go when we want a premium Italian dinner without the formality of Riviera — equally good, differently intentioned. They recently relocated to a brand-new venue that is significantly more refined and beautiful than before, which has made an already reliable restaurant even easier to recommend.

The menu is highly varied and extensive: excellent pasta dishes, an incredible selection of fully customizable pizzas, strong salad and sandwich options and a generous dessert list. It is the kind of restaurant that works well on any day of the week, at any time, for almost any occasion — from a casual dinner for two to a more celebratory group evening.

Arte balances a genuinely welcoming neighbourhood feel with a beautifully polished environment. It is not trying to be the most exciting restaurant in Pererenan. It is trying to be the most consistently good one. And it succeeds.
