Crate Café

A Bali institution that moved to the neighbourhood — and brought everything with it.

450m from MAR Bali · 2 min walk

Crate Café is a Bali institution — one of those places that has earned its reputation over years and then somehow managed to keep it. When it moved to Pererenan it brought everything with it: the energy, the portions, the unmistakable industrial-chic aesthetic with concrete walls, high ceilings and long wooden communal benches that make strangers feel like they are dining together by choice.

You order at the counter, collect a number and they bring the food to you. During peak hours there will be a queue — but that queue is there for a reason. The portions are massive, photogenic and genuinely delicious. This is not a place for a delicate breakfast. It is a place for a proper, energetic start to the day.

The fact that it is just 450 metres from MAR Bali — close enough to walk — makes it one of those easy morning decisions that often becomes a daily ritual by the end of a stay.

Best For
  • Big, generous breakfasts
  • Energetic morning atmosphere
  • Instagram-worthy plates
  • Walking distance from MAR Bali
  • The full Bali breakfast experience
Good To Know

Order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Expect a short queue at peak hours — it moves quickly. Go early or after 10am to avoid the busiest window.

MAR Bali Note

The closest quality breakfast spot to MAR Bali and often the first place we point guests towards. When someone asks us where they can walk to for breakfast — this is always the answer.

The Hula

For slow mornings and long lunches — exactly as they describe themselves.

850m from MAR Bali · 2 min by scooter

The Hula does not try to be more than it is — and that is precisely why it works. An open-air restaurant right on the main street of Pererenan, with bean bags and sofas that invite you to stay longer than you planned. The tropical, laid-back atmosphere feels like a natural extension of the villa rather than a destination in itself.

Their own description — "for slow mornings and long lunches" — is accurate. This is not where you go when you are in a hurry. It is where you go when you want to ease into the day without any particular agenda. The menu covers a varied range of breakfast options and everything arrives at the pace the place seems to set deliberately.

Best For
  • Slow, unhurried mornings
  • Open-air tropical atmosphere
  • Guests who want to ease into the day
  • Casual, relaxed Pererenan feel
Good To Know

Bean bags and sofas make it easy to linger. Not the place for a quick breakfast before activities — plan to stay a while and enjoy it.

MAR Bali Note

The Hula is the perfect transition from the villa pace to the Pererenan vibe. For guests who want their morning to feel like an extension of a slow, private stay rather than a rush to the next thing — this is where we send them.

Cinta Pererenan

The reliable all-rounder — refined, varied and genuinely friendly.

1.3km from MAR Bali · 4 min by scooter

Cinta is the place we go when we are not sure what we want — which is probably the best recommendation any café can earn. The menu is extensive enough to satisfy almost any morning mood, from spectacular sweet options to healthy, genuinely tasty bowls that do not feel like a compromise.

The space itself is both indoor and outdoor, with misting fans that manage the tropical heat more effectively than most. The staff is consistently friendly and the pace is relaxed without being slow. It is the kind of café where you can make a decision at the table and feel confident that whatever you order will be good.

Best For
  • When you can't decide what you want
  • Biggest menu variety in the area
  • Sweet breakfast options
  • Healthy bowls without compromise
  • Indoor and outdoor seating
Good To Know

Misting fans make the outdoor area genuinely comfortable even in the heat of the morning. The menu is large — take a moment to look through it properly before ordering.

MAR Bali Note

Our go-to when we want something reliable and varied. For groups with different tastes — one person wants a smoothie bowl, another wants eggs benedict — Cinta is the easiest answer because everyone will find something they actually want.

Brunch Club Pererenan

Generous, spacious and home to the most famous pancakes in Bali.

1.4km from MAR Bali · 4 min by scooter

Brunch Club is a Pererenan classic — large, open and very spacious, which makes it arguably the best option in the area for families or larger groups who want to sit together without feeling squeezed. The atmosphere is comfortable rather than designed, and the portions are undeniably generous.

But the real reason to come here is the Porncakes — Japanese-style soufflé pancakes that have developed something close to a legendary reputation in Bali. Tall, impossibly light and served with toppings that make them almost too photogenic to eat. If you are staying in Bali and have not tried them, this is the place to do it. We tell every guest the same thing.

Best For
  • Families with children
  • Large groups needing space
  • The legendary Porncakes
  • Generous, satisfying portions
  • Comfortable, unpretentious atmosphere
Good To Know

Portions are on the generous side — this is not a light breakfast spot. The Porncakes are a must at least once. Go hungry.

MAR Bali Note

The best place near MAR Bali for families or groups who want space and ease. And the Porncakes are not negotiable — we genuinely believe you have not fully experienced Pererenan until you have had them.

ST. Ali

Melbourne's finest specialty coffee culture, transplanted to Pererenan.

1.8km from MAR Bali · 5 min by scooter

ST. Ali comes from Melbourne — one of the cities that takes specialty coffee more seriously than almost anywhere else in the world. The Pererenan outpost carries that same seriousness into Bali: spacious, professional and immediately different in atmosphere from the cafés that surround it.

If your morning starts with coffee and the quality of that coffee genuinely matters to you, this is your place. The food menu is more limited than the other spots on this list — but that is not the point. A great cup of coffee is the point, and they deliver it consistently. The indoor AC area and outdoor terrace give you options depending on the morning.

Best For
  • Serious specialty coffee
  • Quiet, professional atmosphere
  • Melbourne-style coffee culture
  • Indoor AC and outdoor terrace
  • Coffee purists who know what they want
Good To Know

The food menu is smaller than others on this list. If breakfast is equally important to you, consider combining ST. Ali for coffee with Baked just across the road for pastries.

MAR Bali Note

For guests who travel with specific coffee standards — and who know the difference between a good flat white and an exceptional one — ST. Ali is the clear recommendation. Conveniently located directly across from Baked, which makes combining the two an easy morning win.

Baked Pererenan

Some of the best sourdough and pastries on the island — consistently, reliably excellent.

1.9km from MAR Bali · 5 min by scooter

Baked is part of a well-known Bali chain that has earned its reputation by maintaining quality across every location. The Pererenan outpost is simpler than some of the others — more open, more casual — but the bread and pastries are exactly what you would expect from the name: some of the best on the island.

The sourdough is excellent. The pastries are consistently good. And the scrambled eggs — a seemingly simple thing that many cafés get wrong — are done properly here. The open space is equipped with fans that keep the morning comfortable. There is always a buzz of people, which gives it an energy that feels earned rather than manufactured.

Best For
  • Sourdough and artisan pastries
  • Classic breakfast done properly
  • Taking bread back to the villa
  • Combining with ST. Ali across the road
  • Reliable quality any morning
Good To Know

Pick up extra bread or pastries to take back to MAR Bali — their sourdough travels well and makes an excellent villa breakfast the following morning. Located directly across from ST. Ali.

MAR Bali Note

One of those places that is always good. We often recommend grabbing something to take back to the villa — a loaf of sourdough or a bag of pastries from Baked turns the next morning at MAR Bali into something special without any effort.

07 · 2.2km · 6 min by scooter Our Personal Favourite

7AM Bakers

Near the beach, near Rite Gym, and genuinely one of the best breakfast spots in Pererenan.

2.2km from MAR Bali · 6 min by scooter

We are genuinely in love with 7AM Bakers. It is the furthest spot on this list from MAR Bali but consistently worth the extra few minutes. Located near Pererenan beach and directly next to Rite Gym, it has become one of those places that organises a morning around itself — a Pilates class, 7AM Bakers, a walk on the beach. That combination is very hard to beat.

The atmosphere is cool and modern, with a great indoor sofa area with AC that makes it equally comfortable whether you want to sit and linger or eat and go. But what really sets it apart is the variety and the quality of what they make — baguettes, bagels, an extraordinary selection of pastries, cakes and proper egg breakfasts. Everything tastes like it was made with genuine care, because it was. Choosing what to eat is consistently the hardest part of the visit.

If you can only pick one breakfast spot during your stay at MAR Bali, this would be our suggestion.

Best For
  • Our personal top recommendation
  • After a workout at Rite Gym
  • Before a walk on Pererenan beach
  • Extraordinary pastry and bread variety
  • Casual AC indoor seating
  • Taking quality bread back to the villa
Good To Know

Perfect before or after Rite Gym next door, or as the start of a beach morning. Grab extra bread to take back — their quality travels exceptionally well to the villa.

MAR Bali Note

This is the one. If someone asks us where we personally go for breakfast and we only have one answer — 7AM Bakers. The quality, the variety, the location near the beach and the atmosphere make it the complete morning experience. It is the furthest on this list but genuinely worth every extra minute of the ride.

Stay at MAR Bali

Wake up in Pererenan.
The rest takes care of itself.

At MAR Bali, we believe the best mornings start before the day has any agenda. A slow breakfast at one of these places, a walk to the beach, back to the villa. That is the Pererenan rhythm — and it is something we are always happy to help guests build around their stay. Reach out to Vic and we will take care of everything else.
