Reload Sanctuary
The gym we use ourselves, and the first one we recommend.
Padang Linjong, Canggu · ~5 min from MAR BaliReload is the gym we train at most. It is on Padang Linjong, about five minutes by scooter or seven by car from MAR Bali. The equipment is among the best in Bali: high-quality strength machines, a large cardio area, a rooftop training zone and an outdoor functional area that suits HYROX-style sessions. The crowd is mature and focused, and the feel is closer to a high-end club in London or Singapore than to a typical Bali gym.
Recovery is just as strong: a 39°C jacuzzi, a cold plunge, an ice bath, a large sauna, a steam room and a pool area with sunbeds, bean bags and Balinese daybeds. The restaurant serves healthy meals, fresh juices and good protein options, and on Friday evenings there is often a live DJ at sunset.
Two practical details. Reload is next to Mai Main Playground, an indoor children’s playground, so one parent can train while the children play next door. And tripods are only allowed before 8 AM and after 8 PM, which keeps filming out of the busy hours.
- Serious strength training
- HYROX and functional training
- High-end recovery facilities
- A social, networking crowd
- Families: playground next door
- Lockers get tight at peak hours
- Modern concrete design, not tropical
- Premium pricing
- Busy mid-morning: go early or in the evening
If we can only give a guest one gym, it is this one.
Omni
A tropical wellness club with a 25-metre pool and the best spa in this guide.
Seseh · ~9 min from MAR BaliOmni was our own gym for almost a year, and every guest we sent there came back happy, many of them several times in the same stay. It feels more like a tropical wellness club than a gym: palm trees, open lawns, lounge areas, sunbeds and a 25-metre pool that is at its best at sunrise. It is one of the few places in Bali where we can spend half a day.
The spa is the most carefully run in this guide, with cold facial towels in the sauna and scented ice balls to intensify the heat. The changing rooms could belong to a five-star hotel, the restaurant is healthy and highly customisable, and there are two massage rooms on site. In the evening the garden lounge has sofas and a fire pit, and on Sunday mornings a running club heads out around Seseh.
For longer stays, some extended memberships include longevity programmes and blood analysis. The all-in membership with gym and spa is among the most expensive in Bali. It makes sense if you use the recovery side, the monthly massage credits and the guest invitations.
- Swimming and sunrise laps
- Recovery and longevity
- Pilates and yoga
- Long, wellness-focused stays
- Spending half a day
- Gym machinery is relatively basic
- Not for heavy lifting or a big cardio setup
- All-in membership is premium priced
- In Seseh, slightly further than the others
For guests who want somewhere peaceful and beautiful instead of a hardcore training floor, Omni is the first place we think of.
Obsidian
The best-equipped gym in Bali, built for bodybuilding.
Canggu · ~5 min from MAR BaliWe spent a lot of time at the original Obsidian when it first opened. In machinery it is probably the best-equipped gym in Bali: nothing else in the area matches the quantity, variety and quality of the machines. This is where serious lifters go for hypertrophy work, advanced strength training and specialised equipment.
The atmosphere is centred on physique and performance, and there is a strong content-creation culture: tripods are common and filming is constant. It is also more complete than its reputation suggests, with a good spa, an impressive pool, Balinese daybeds and a decent restaurant, at prices below the premium wellness clubs.
- Machine training and hypertrophy
- Bodybuilding and advanced lifting
- Specialised equipment
- The widest machine selection in Bali
- Value for general training
- Strong influencer and filming culture
- Intense atmosphere, not for everyone
- Not the place for quiet wellness
For guests who take training seriously, Obsidian is the answer. If you want balance and a calmer setting, we suggest Reload or Omni first.
Rite Gym
The neighbourhood gym of Pererenan, minutes from the beach.
Pererenan · Walking distance from Pererenan BeachRite Gym, formerly Wrong Gym, has been through a full rebrand and the space is well kept throughout. It is in Pererenan, minutes from the beach, which makes it one of the most convenient options from MAR Bali. The design is industrial: exposed concrete ceilings, wall paintings and minimalist details.
The weight room uses Technogym equipment and covers general training well. The cardio area is small but sufficient. It is made for a comfortable, relaxed session, not for elite bodybuilding. The spa is cosy, with a good sauna, a steam room and a small pool, and the café serves coffee, juices and smoothies.
- Relaxed training close to the villa
- A stylish, low-key gym
- Calm wellness routines
- Pairing with Pererenan Beach
- Avoiding large, crowded gyms
- Limited machine variety
- Small cardio area
- Café only, no restaurant
- Smaller recovery area than Reload or Omni
The easy choice for guests who want a stylish, quiet place to train without a huge fitness complex.
